食品安全-22, Food Additives


Compiled from different sources and results of questionnaire, from 1959 to 1960 US FDA published list of GRAS with about 600 chemicals that may be added to foods in several installments.
Some were removed due to suspicion of cancer-causing effects.
Now, there are more than 7,000, estimated under varieties of application in food industry.
More evaluations and assessments based on new scientific findings and techniques are needed to ensure the safety of food additives and their applications.
Attentions should be paid to those with possibility of synergistic and bioaccumulation effects.
Purity of chemical is always a problem.
Today’s safe may not be tomorrow’s.
Eat fresh food unless there is no choice.
